February WECA Mtg - Thurs, Feb 19th at 7pm + of-interest items

Dear WECA Neighbors – We have several important items to share with you. First, as a snow storm approaches this evening (Monday, Feb 16th) into early tomorrow morning, please note that the City of Rockville has declared a Snow Emergency; below, you will find information on what that means for City services, and we also encourage you to check in on neighbors who may need your help during this time. Please be safe, and stay warm!

Second, we also share information on our February WECA meeting scheduled for this Thursday, February 19th at 7pm in the agenda below.

Finally, there are two additional items of interest, including an upcoming community meeting that Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner is hosting on Saturday, March 7th entitled “Infrastructure and Growth: Are We Keeping Pace?” and a utility scam item we wanted to raise for your awareness.

Rockville Declares Snow Emergency Ahead of Storm
Residents should remove vehicles from roads, including neighborhood streets, by 6 p.m. tonight (Monday, Feb 16th). Recycling and refuse collection is cancelled Tuesday and will shift to one day later for the remainder of the week. Residents are urged to remove snow from around fire hydrants so that fire crews will have easier access to the hydrants in an emergency. Residents also are encouraged to check in on older neighbors who may not be able to clear snow and may need some help.

Full detail on the above items, as well as information on how to report any power outages, emergency transport assistance, and frequently asked questions about snow removal, can be found here: http://www.rockvillemd.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=783

Recent Utility Scam for your awareness
WSSC and Fairfax Water have informed the City of Rockville Police Department that:
• Water utility customers in the region are reporting new scam calls that began in early February.
• Customers report callers stating they are from WSSC or Fairfax Water and offer discounts on their accounts. The caller then asks for their water utility account number. Customers reporting the calls stated they immediately hung up the phone.
• Water utilities do not have “discounted” water programs.
• Fairfax Water and WSSC Water have alerted police departments in their jurisdictions. Channel 4 is doing a piece with WSSC.
• WSSC is putting out a press release and using social media. Fairfax Water has information on their web page: http://www.fairfaxwater.org/
Customers receiving calls should:
• Hang up immediately;
• Refuse to give any information (including account numbers) to unsolicited callers;
• Notify local police departments in the jurisdiction and report the call;
• Use the Caller ID to note the number and give it to the police.
